The Cost

How often do we consider the cost of following Jesus?

For most of our history as a nation, Christians have enjoyed the freedom to believe without fear of persecution.  But as we finish the first decade of the new millennium it appears that those days are numbered.  In fact, there is rising evidence that believers will soon have to decide if we are willing to suffer some increased persecution for our faith in God.

What does that mean for the Church in the United States, and particularly for those of us here in Van?  For starters I believe it means we had better look at persecution from a different perspective.  Jesus told His followers that they should expect and even look forward to persecution (Matthew 10).  Are we any different?  Shouldn’t we expect that persecution is a normal consequence of following Jesus publically?

Secondly, we need to pray like we have never prayed before and depend on God to get us through the coming persecution.  The Church in America tends to use so much organization and planning in its work that little room is left for God’s power.  According to the Scriptures it is God alone who can effect real change in the lives of people, and God alone who will go with us through persecution.

Since the time of Christ, persecution has actually strengthened and grown the Church!   I don’t know about you, but I am not sure I can count persecution as a joy.

I am convinced, however, that God is worth the temporary pain and suffering!

May God help us to be ready,
Kenneth

Little Disciples

Little Disciples Day Care

As a child I was raised in a Baptist church and attended preschool there.  Even at that young of an age, I have many memories of preschool.  I can still remember my teacher’s names and can even close my eyes and picture my classrooms.  Many of the friends that I started the foundation of my Christian faith and education with, were the same friends that held my hand as I was saved at GA camp, laughed with me in youth group, held me accountable through high school and hugged me at graduation.

Preschool for me was the beginning of the foundation of a great Christian walk through friendship, guidance and education.  This is my dream for Little Disciples.  I pray that Little Disciples is the foundation of a great Christian walk for my children, your children and all the children of our community.  The potential is great and the outcome even greater.

At Little Disciples we will use WEE Learn curriculum by Lifeway that allows children to grow and develop as Jesus did, in “wisdom and stature” and in “favour with God and man” (Luke 2:52).  Our purpose at Little Disciples is to offer a safe, fun, Christian environment that allows children to learn and grow physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.  Each day our children will take part in activities that allow them to learn about God, Jesus, the Bible, the church, self, family, others and the natural world.

I believe that Little Disciples is going to be an exciting and great ministry at First Baptist Church in Van.  I am honored and proud to be the director of this program and excited for the opportunity to help shape, guide and love the children of this church and community.

I believe that God has called me to help show His children the great love He has for every one of them.  I ask the church to pray for our Little Disciples  and for me as we start this great ministry.
